SIME 2006 – some first comments during lunch break

I had looked forward to the Lords of the Blogosphere debate at SIME, but I must say I was a bit disappointed. It lacked focus, and that’s a real shame when Dan Gillmor was in the panel – whenever he spoke he got my attention though. It would have been much more interesting to listen to a keynote speech by him alone.
Loic LeMeur got the most time, and did have a few anecdotes, but on the whole I thought the questions the panel got were off key. Too bad.

oh, I am sorry to hear that you were disappointed by our panel. I don’t think it lacked focus, but I do think that there are some topics that could have been discussed instead.

I guess it depends on my focus as a listener too, being readers’ editor at aftonbladet.se and a blogger since 1998. I was hoping for more indepth discussions about citizen media since Dan Gillmor was a part of the panel, and also blogging as a media trend and your thoughts on that.
No offense, I thought you did okay with the questions you were given. But on the whole the discussion felt a bit too close to the surface of the blogging phenomenon, a bit too basic. But I guess that could be because not many in the audience were in fact bloggers.

yes, true, but being a journalist you probably have a very specific angle on blogging and are more interested in the stuff dan gillmor had to say today.

Yep, I’m only writing from my own perspective, I’m sure a large part of the audience was pleased with the panel.
I did enjoy the 2nd day better. Also the 2nd panel you were on.

next time we attend the same conference we should try talking to each other in person. :)

That’s an idea! :) And thanks for your input.

I was also disappointed on the panel of Lords of the Blogosphere. I’m more interested in culture differentials in blogging and Business blogging and that angle.
