One week old
Today Linus turned a week old, and it feels like he’s been living with us for much longer than that. Already it’s hard to imagine life without him.
Today he lost the remainder of his umbilical cord. His left eye is still clogging up because of a narrow tear canal, so we’re trying to keep that clean.
We are settling in to our daily life with a baby to take care of. I spend most of my time breastfeeding and changing diapers, while K is keeping everything else running.
Linus likes to eat for long periods of time. K’s mom adviced me to keep him active while breastfeeding, so that I could get a bit more sleep. Today we had a visit at the hospital and I asked the midwife about that. She said probably he needs his comfort time, but I could try to keep the feeding times down at night.
Linus was also weighed and had lost only 20 grams – up to 10 percent weight loss is normal in the first week.
Me, I’m starting to heal. I got my stitches removed today. Though I’m still weak and my blood pressure is low. As a compensation I have high pulse which keeps me awake. I don’t like to hear my own heartbeats. I try to get some sleep in the daytime when Linus actually sleeps more than at night.
Here’s Linus day by day so far.
Day 2, at the hospital, sleeping on daddy’s chest
Day 3, on which he got to go home
Day 4, grandma (K’s mom) visiting
Day 5, blue jean boy, sleeping on a down pillow he got from grandma (my mom) who paid a visit
WOW! Congratulations and welcome Linus!
Congratualtions Lotta – and K! Linus looks so healthy and beautiful.
athenius, marg – thank you!
